TrueRTA's Signal Generator produces an ultra low-distortion sine wave variable from 5 Hz to 24kHz. Below is the measured response of an E-MU 0404 USB audio interface at 96 kHz sampling frequency. TrueRTA's Quick Sweep employs a short digitally generated sweep (chirp) to measure the frequency response of electronic and acoustical systems. Others (such as noise analysis or analyzing live or recorded music) require no test signal. Some of the above applications require the use of the analyzer in combination with a test signal from the generator. Study the harmonic structure of musical instruments. Analyze the distortion characteristics of audio equipment. Study the noise characteristics of acoustic environments or electronic gear. Measure the frequency response of various types of audio equipment. Observe the frequency characteristics of recorded music or other recorded audio. Observe the frequency characteristics of live music in real time. Combine individual loudspeaker measurements into a spatial average frequency response measurement

Measure the frequency response of a loudspeaker system using either pink noise or Quick Sweep The latter settings are appropriate for highly accurate frequency response measurements. Longer samples provide increased low frequency resolution with the tradeoff of slower updates. The size of the waveform sample is variable so that shorter samples can be used where a high frame rate is required, as in sampling live music. The audio spectrum analyzer shows the changing spectrum of live input signals up to 48kHz (half the maximum sampling frequency).

TrueRTA’s audio spectrum analyzer software shows you a detailed picture of what you’re hearing in real-time, that is, as it happens. The screen shot below shows TrueRTA evaluating the performance of the E-MU 0404 USB sound system with a 1kHz sine wave where the 1 kHz distortion components are seen to be below -100 dB (i.e., less than 0.001%).

TrueRTA turns your PC into a powerful audio test system normally seen only in better audio research and design laboratories. The user interface could use a more modern design.By providing these test instruments as software and employing the audio input and output capability of your PC we are able to offer a level of performance that could only be replaced by many thousands of dollars worth of traditional bench top test instruments. It lets you analyze sounds with a good degree of precision. The software lets you switch between different analysis modes. The spectrum analyzer can be tweaked in various ways.

With TrueRTA on your computer, you can be well on your way to creating your own professional acoustic test setup. There are numerous options to explore, which is enough proof that TrueRTA can be a valuable asset to any sound engineer. It is also possible to display the analyzer for the right, left or both channels.

Another useful feature is the possibility of generating different waves, like sine, square, triangle, saw and others.īy default, the software displays an RTA spectrum analyzer, but you can switch to an oscilloscope mode if you want to. Additionally, you can change the RTA resolution to one or more octaves, change the speed tradeoff and make other fine tweaks. If you are interesting in analyzing sounds in a specific range, you can increase or decrease the high and low limits of both frequency and amplitude.

Sounds can be measured across a large spectrum, from 10 Hz to 50 kHz and from -160 dB to 20 dB, at least with the free version. If you have a microphone plugged in, you can simply click a "Go" button and the software will immediately display the sound frequencies in real time. The spectrum analyzer itself takes up most of the user interface and you can find various options all around it. The software is compatible with all popular Windows platforms and it doesn't have any special requirements. It is an excellent tool to have around, for anyone, from musicians to sound technicians.Īlthough a more powerful version of TrueRTA is available at a cost, the free version provides you with everything you need to get a good idea on how it works. It works with all sorts of microphones and other audio equipment and it provides high quality readings on any audio signals. This feature-rich spectrum analyzer gives you the possibility of setting up your very own audio measurement system.
